Because I am one clearly creative person who has established this by using almost the exact same theme with every project, I'm going to mix it up a bit. Actually, just kidding, I love apocalypse motifs and don't plan on stopping them any time soon. False alarm. The topic of the art installments I'm doing this year for Visual Studies is "Long Distance". (Oh Alex, is that inspired by your own personal life? Yes. Let us play a sad song on the world's tiniest violin.) But yes, it is inspired by my own long-distance relationship that's been going on for about 10 months now. Anyway,
I'm thinking that the first piece I work on for this will be a sculpture? Made from wire and papier-mâché for a gritty look. Two walkie-talkies, identical, one of them is blood-stained and has poetry quotes written on tape with Sharpie, and the second one is dirty and is covered in girly stickers. Then, with wire attachment, a cartoon speech bubble is coming out of each walkie-talkie. One says "where are you?" and another one says "I miss you." Which implies that the owners of the walkie-talkies are emotionally invested in each other but have not been together or seen each other in a while.
The next four installments will be digital art prints, and they express the individual struggle of both people trying to survive on their own, while maintaining communication with the other person. In each drawing, the person, or both, will be shown discreetly holding the walkie-talkie in their hand, to show that their small way of communication is valued. Maybe in one drawing, one of them is fighting against infected, or treating a wound. Actually, I'll probably end up doing more than five drawings. I could definitely just do five but, what's the fun in that? I dunno. Maybe if I can get my lazy ass to work this year, I can do more than five.
